During Billy Martin’s divorce proceedings, he decided to come live with his pal, Mickey Mantle in Commerce, Oklahoma, during the winter. One day it was cold and Mickey said it was perfect for duck hunting. Billy had never been duck hunting. So they dressed him up to be warm. Billy Martin weighed 165 pounds, and after all the clothes they placed on him, he now weighed over 200 pounds, not counting the shotgun. So Billy, Mickey and his twin brothers Roy and Ray take off for the lake. Now the best way to duck hunt is to call the ducks in and then shoot them while they are in flight. The problem is Mickey doesn’t have permission to hunt on this piece of property. Mantle and the guys finally get in the blind and get all set up, when they see a white pickup truck parked next to their car. On the side it says “Oklahoma Game Commission.” So Mantle hollers “run,” and they head for their truck around the other side of the lake. Martin is so weighed down by the amount of clothes he has on that he falls behind the rest. The next thing they know, Billy falls down and just stops running. Then Billy yells out, “You guys go on ahead, I’m just gonna shoot it out with him.” The Game Warden hears this and turns and runs back to his truck. He figures these guys must be crazy, and he had never been threatened before. “That was the last we ever saw of the Game Warden,” laughed Mickey.
